Man City Star Wants Etihad Stay Amid Reports Of £50m Barcelona Move

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The Sun reported that Barca are interested in the midfielder of Turkish origin but would have to pay £50m to secure a move.

Per the source, City are keen on keeping him at the Etihad and are ‘certain’ to offer a new deal.

Gundogan has responded to the latest round of rumours.

The 27-year-old answered a question regarding the Barcelona link, telling Arab News: “I have two years to go on my current contract.

“With the way we play, with the people around me, in the city, in the community. I really enjoy it here.”

Gundogan has come under fire from sections of the German media and fanbase after posing for photographs with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The midfielder gave Erdogan a signed City shirt reading ‘my president’.

Gundogan had his luxury car smashed up on June 7 – in an apparent revenge for meeting Turkey’s president – and was booed by his own fans throughout the warm-up friendlies against Austria and Saudi Arabia.

Gundogan is currently in Russia with the Germany national team for the 2018 World Cup.

The midfielder did not start in the 1-0 defeat to Mexico in the opening Group F game.

The City star was an unused substitute and will have to wait until next Saturday to make his tournament debut against Sweden.
