Manchester City star playmaker Ilkay Gundogan is unlikely to feature against Liverpool this weekend.
The Citizens travel to Merseyside to take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, kick-off is scheduled for 16:30 (GMT).
Gundogan previously stated that he was looking forward to City’s bout with Liverpool however, the 27-year-old is a major doubt after picking up an injury.
The Germany international was forced off during the second half of City’s win over Hoffenheim on Tuesday after picking up a hamstring injury.
Following the game, Man City boss Pep Guardiola told reporters that he was in the dark about the extent of Gundogan’s injury.
“Gundogan has a problem with his muscle, I don’t know his injury. We’ll check it tomorrow,” Guardiola told reporters.
“[But] Kevin [De Bruyne] has started to train with us, so that’s the first step.”
Meanwhile, The Sun has stated that Gundogan is a “major doubt” for Sunday’s blockbuster fixture.
The news will come as a huge blow to Pep Guardiola, especially as Kevin De Bruyne is also out with an injury.
Star striker Sergio Aguero is also an injury doubt with a heel injury.
