Man City star with the best penalty record revealed after £60m Riyad Mahrez miss against Liverpool

Manchester City dropped two points over the weekend following £60 million summer signing Riyad Mahrez’s miss from the penalty spot.

Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a 0-0 draw by Liverpool on Sunday but had the chance to go 1-0 up in the final minutes of the game.

With Sergio Aguero off and Ilkay Gundogan out injured, Mahrez opted to take the penalty, which ended up sailing over the crossbar.

Aguero is City’s first choice penalty taker and has a record of scoring 39 out of 49 of his spot kicks.

However, statistically, Man City’s best penalty taker is Ilkay Gundogan. The Germany international has netted six out of six penalties including a high-pressure spot kick in the UEFA Champions League.

Gundogan missed Sunday’s encounter due to an injury he picked up last week. The 27-year-old was forced off with a hamstring injury during Man City’s win over Hoffenheim in the UEFA Champions League.

City fans will be hoping Gundogan can recover in time for the Citizen’s clash with Burnley FC on October 20.
