Man City team news: £20m Germany international signals return date
Manchester City star playmaker Ilkay Gundogan has revealed when he aims to return to full-training.
Gundogan suffered a knee injury back in December and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The Germany international spent last week in New York where he continued his rehabilitation.
During an interview with ESPN, Gundogan stated that he is targeting a return ahead of this summers’s pre-season your.
“It is getting better. It is a little bit frustrating but injuries are part of football,” Gundogan told ESPN FC.
“Unfortunately my injury is a long-term injury, it takes quite a few months to recover, but I am okay with that. That is fine for me, I work hard.
“I just try to do the best every day and try to come back as soon as possible on the field. Hopefully I can start pre-season.”
The 26-year-old missed last season’s pre-season tour due to a dislocated knee cap.
Man City are currently in third in the Premier League, 12 points behind league leaders Chelsea. Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a 1-1 draw last weekend by Liverpool.
Gundogan was in impressive form before suffering a season-ending injury.
The former Borussia Dortmund man has two assists and five goals in 16 apperances for City this season.
Gundogan made the move to City from Dortmund last summer for £20 million (BBC).
