Man United & Chelsea on alert as Liverpool contract rebel demands inclusion of release clause

Germany international midfielder Emre Can has been one of Liverpool’s star performers so far this season.

However, the 23-year-old has under 12 months remaining on his contract with the Reds.

Interestingly, the contract stand-off between Liverpool and Can isn’t about wages. According to the Times, talks have stalled because club chiefs are reluctant to include a release clause in Can’s contract.

Per the source, the combative midfielder is only willing to pen a new deal if a release-clause is present.

Liverpool exploited Can’s £9.75 million release clause when they signed him from Bayer Leverkusen three years ago.

Meanwhile, both Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Germany international.

Serie A giants Juventus were also closely linked with a move for Can over the summer transfer window.

Liverpool previously refused to include a release clause in Philippe Coutinho’s contract.

The Reds will be hoping Can can maintain his form this weekend when they face Manchester City in the Premier League.
