Man United Linked With Surprise Move For 18-Year-Old Wonderkid Elif Elmas

Manchester United have been linked with a surprise move for Fenerbahce wonderkid Elif Elmas according to the Hurriyet newspaper.

The Red Devils sent scouts to the Fenerbahce clash against Benfica in the Champions League Third Round tie.

The Premier League giants scouts were left impressed with the 18-year-old.

Elmas had 37 touches on the ball with a 76 percent pass accuracy in his first appearance in a Champions League game.

Elmas is a first-choice midfielder at Fenerbahce despite his young age.

The Yellow Canaries plan to keep Elmas on until at least next season despite growing interest from across Europe.

The Macedonian born midfielder of Turkish origin does have another four-years remaining on his contract.

Elmas is one of the most highly rated youngsters in the Super Lig.

The youngster started playing football aged six for his neighborhood club Fenerbahçe Tefejuz, in Macedonia.

Coincidently he joined Fenerbahce 12 years later.

The Yellow Canaries managed to fight off 20 clubs, including Manchester City, to get Elmas to sign last July but former head coach Aykut Kocaman did not make much use of the rising star.

“There were many clubs that wanted me in their squad. Yes, among them was Manchester City. But I refused all because I wanted to fulfill my childhood dream and to putt on the shirt of Fenerbahce. I don’t regret for this decision at all, here I am happy and I am waiting of my official debut,” Elmas said.

Kocaman’s replacement Phillip Cocu has taken a different approach towards youth and immediately promoted him to the first-team where he has established himself in central midfield.
