Man United suffer major blow as Arsenal duo are ‘close to signing new long-term deals’

Mesut Ozil

Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil could be set to extend his stay at the North London based club.

According to The Sun, Ozil and Jack Wilshere are close to signing new long-term deals with Arsenal.

The playmaker of Turkish origin has been linked with a move away from Arsenal after failing to sign a new contract.

Ozil has just five months left on his current deal and could even end up leaving the club for free in the summer.

The report goes on to state that Arsenal have given up hopes of extending Alexis Sanchez’s stay at the club.

“Mesut loves it here. He loves living in London and has made it clear he wants to stay,” An Arsenal source reportedly told the Sun.

“Jack is Arsenal through-and-through and wants to become club captain next season. He wants to be a legend.

“They’ve both got the contracts on the table and there’s not much else to iron out really. They should be all sorted soon.”

Wenger recently confirmed that Arsenal would not be selling Ozil over the January transfer window. Rivals Manchester United have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho previously worked with Ozil during their spell at Real Madrid.

The 2014 World Cup winner has been in great form recently, picking up back-to-back Player of the Month awards for Arsenal in November and December.
