Man United transfer news: Club official confirms efforts to sign Fellaini after sending scouts to Chelsea clash
Besiktas club official Metin Albayrak has confirmed efforts to sign Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
Albayrak revealed that the Black Eagles have been scouting the Belgium international and that he is on their transfer shortlist.
Fellaini is one of 20 players the reigning Super Lig champions are scouting and among several targets the club are actively trying to sign.
Speaking after the 3-1 victory over Goztepe, Albayrak was quoted by Turkish-Football as saying: “Transfer plans never end, we are always working.
“Fellaini is on our list, we have made efforts to sign him but not just him.
“He is not the only player we scouted, our scouting team watched 20 games live this week.
“We are keeping tabs on several players.
“The club has plans for Turkey and Europe, there are negotiations.
“We want to make the signing for the winter transfer window or for the end of the season.”
Fellaini has under 12 months remaining on his current contract and has yet to reach an agreement over an extension.
The 30-year-old is unlikely to get a contract longer than one-season even if he does get offered a new deal.
Turkish-Football recently reported that Fellaini’s agent travelled to Istanbul and held talks with Besiktas.
This is not the first time Fellaini has been targeted by a Super Lig side.
Galatasaray were close to signing Fellaini over the summer transfer window until head coach Jose Mourinho ruled out a move.
“It’s easier for Galatasaray to get me than to get Maroaune,” Mourinho was quoted as saying by Goal.
“Forget it. He’s too important to me.”
Fellaini has four goals and one assist in nine appearances for United in all competitions this season.
Besiktas have won the league title for the past two seasons and are currently first in the Champions League Group G with 10 points after four games.
