Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is preparing to break the bank to sign AS Roma star defender Kostas Manolas, according to the Sun.
The report states that the Portuguese tactician is determined to bolster his defensive options over the January transfer window and has set his sights on the Greek international.
Per-the-source, United are prepared to part company with £47.6 million to secure the 25-year-old.
Manolas has been a key member of Roma’s squad this season and has made 21 apperances for the Rome based club. The Greek international joined Roma from Olympiacos back in August 2014.
The report goes onto state that United are also pursuing Benfica’s Sweden international defender Victor Lindelof.
Meanwhile in other Man United transfer news, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin have both been placed on the transfer list.
United have turned their season around following a turbulent start and are competing four trophies this season.
The Red Devils sit in sixth place in the Premier League with 39 points after 20 games and take on Hull City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday. United then host their bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford in the league this weekend.
