Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has stated that the Red Devils will not sign a defender over the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.

The report states that Mourinho won’t move for either Jose Fonte or Victor Lindelof despite summer signing Eric Bailly being ruled out for at least a month on African Cup of Nations duty.

Per-the-source, the Portuguese tactician is opting to place his trust in Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling.

“No, I wait for Bailly. I hope the three can control the situation in those eight matches,” Jose Mourinho was quoted as saying when asked if he would be signing a defender this month.

“I will try to rest one in every game. On Saturday I will rest one, against Hull another – and we’ll try to make a rotation between these three.

“We still have Daley Blind as the fourth defender in case we need him to play there and we also have Michael Carrick, so let’s try.”

Meanwhile in other Man United transfer news, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin have both been placed on the transfer list.

United are vying for four trophies this season with the Red Devils competing for the Premier League , EFL Cup, Europa League and FA Cup.

The Red Devils sit in sixth place in the Premier League with 39 points after 20 games and take on Reading FC in the FA Cup this weekend.
