Manchester United are reported to be keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan.
The Red Devils are in the hunt for a midfield playmaker and have also been closely linked with Roma’s Kevin Strootman and Juventus’ Arturo Vidal.
However, United have been unable to agree a fee for the Serie A duo and are identifying targets from elsewhere.
Gündoğan was rumoured to be on the verge of a move to United two seasons ago but the deal fell through following an injury which kept the Germany international out of first team football for over 400 days.
The 23-year-old has returned to the squad in recent weeks and featured in Dortmund’s 4-1 victory over Galatasaray.
Speaking to Sky Sports Deutschland Gündoğan said, “I am now available. The plan is that I am fully integrated into the team as soon as the national players are back.”
Gündoğan was one of the central figures of the Dortmund side that reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in the 2012-13 season.
