Manchester United stance on £42m Arsenal superstar confirmed

Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil’s future at the north London-based club is still cast in doubt.

The 29-year-old has under nine months remaining on his contract with the Gunners and could end up leaving the club for free next summer.

According to the Manchester Evening News,  Arsenal are still keen on extending the Germany international’s contract. However, the Gunners do not want to hand him a giant wage hike.

Per the source, Ozil currently earns £154,000-a-week. The World Cup winner wants his weekly wage increased to £200,000-a-week – which would make him one of the Premier League’s highest earners.

The report goes onto state that, contrary to reports, Manchester United have not shown an interest in Ozil.

Ozil played a starring role during Arsenal’s 5-2 win over Everton on Sunday. The 29-year-old scored his sides second goal and provided the assist for their third.

The Gunners host Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

Ozil made the move to Arsenal for £42 million from Real Madrid in September 2013.
