Manchester United’s poor away record in Europe continued on Thursday night after losing 2-1 against Fenerbahce at Sukru Saracoglu stadium.
United have now failed to win any of their last seven matches in European competition.
Moussa Sow opened the scoring with a brilliant overhead kick inside the first two minutes but it was on-loan Sunderland winger Jeremain Lens who stole the show putting on an impressive display and scoring the second goal from a second half free-kick.
Lens wrecked havoc down the wing giving Luke Shaw problems throughout the game. The Dutch international completed six successful dribbles – according to Opta – which was more than the entire United team combined – three altogether.
United struggled to cope with his pace, power and dribbling ability. The 28-year-old caused the Red Devils serious issues on the counter attack and came close to setting up Emmanuel Emenike with a third goal towards the end of the game.
Lens has hit the ground running in Turkey and now has two goals and five assist in seven games for Fenerbahce in all competitions.
