Mark Lawrenson Reveals Score Man United & Liverpool Would Both Be Happy With In Preview

Manchester United head into the derby clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday in second-place.

Liverpool meanwhile are currently third and a win would take them above the Red Devils.

Reds legend Mark Lawrenson remembered the time his former side beat United 4-1 at Old Trafford in 2009.

In fact Liverpool have not lost against United in their last five head to head games.

Lawrenson does not however, believe the Reds will run amok today.

Instead he feels that both sides would be happy to take a draw – a 1-1 draw to be precise.

Lawro gave his verdict in his preview column for the BBC. He warned that a defeat for either side could even jeopardise their place among the top-four sides.

“I think we are looking at a 1-1 draw and that is a result they would both take too,” Lawrenson said.

Yes, it means that they both drop points and the teams outside the top four can close the gap, but they both have a bit of a cushion between them and Chelsea in fifth place.”

Midfielder of Turkish origin Emre Can will start for the Reds, in what will be his 12th successive start in the league.

The 24-year-old does however, face an uncertain future at Liverpool as he has just a few months remaining on his current contract.

Can will become a free agent unless he signs an extension.
