Martin Keown still manages to take dig at Ozil despite Arsenal star scoring & providing assist against Everton

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has been pretty critical of Mesut Ozil this season.

Keown was forced to backtrack following Ozil’s display in the Gunners 5-2 win over Everton last weekend.

The playmaker of Turkish origin scored and provided an assist, putting on an impressive display that drew widespread praise.

Keown had to admit Ozil put on a good performance but still managed to take a sly dig at the 2014 World Cup winner.

“I’ve been very critical of Ozil and I think rightly so,” Keown said on Match of the Day 2. “He’s suddenly turned up [at Everton] and was running with purpose and energy.

“He hasn’t been closing people down but he did that today – he showed his class. His vision and calmness on the ball was superb.

“He showed a willingness to get forward, he was playing with a different head on today. Is he playing for a move? Who knows? Who cares?”

The football pundit questioned whether Ozil was in fact playing for a move.

Ozil has under 12 months remaining on his current contract but has yet to sign a new deal.

The 29-year-old has been linked with an Arsenal exit as a result.

Ozil’s agent Dr Erkut Sogut meanwhile claims that talks are ongoing and that he remains positive an agreement will be reached.

The Arsenal star has one goal and an assist in all competitions for the North London outfit in all competitions this season.
