Mesut Ozil has never played a game at St James’ Park and he will not get the opportunity to do today either.
Arsenal take on Newcastle United on the road today but there was one glaring omission from the team sheet.
Ozil was left out of the squad entirely heading into the clash.
As far as we were aware, the playmaker was match fit ahead of the game and did play in the Europa League quarter-final second leg clash against CSKA.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has yet to reveal exactly why Ozil was left out of the team but what it means is that his bizarre record at St James’ Park will continue.

Ozil has never actually played an away game against Newcastle United since joining Arsenal.
The 29-year-old was also rested against Southampton in the Premier League last week.
Perhaps Wenger is keeping Ozil fit for the Europa League.
The North London based outfit will take on Atletico Madrid next in the semi-finals.
Winning the Europa League is currently the best chance Arsenal have of booking a place in the Champions League next season.
