Arsenal star Mesut Özil has covered more distance, scored more goals, provided more assists and improved his sprinting since returning from injury at the start of 2015 according to the official Premier League website.

The Premier League study shows that Özil was averaging 0.17 goals per 90 minutes in 2014 that figure has increased to 0.26 since the turn of the year.

The 26-year-old has improved his assists per 90 minutes ratio from 0.17 to 0.34.

The World Cup winner is also now creating 3.4 chances per 90 minutes compared to 2.33 in 2014, 11.02 km per match in contrast to 10.39 km last year and 57.93 sprints per game as opposed to 49.17 in 2014.

Özil has received criticism for his perceived low work rate but the stats show he has been more assiduous than his critics would let you believe.

The Arsenal playmaker was recently  found to be the second best performing attacking midfielder in Europe since the turn of the year by the CIES Football Observatory’s latest performance rankings.

The 26-year-old has also won two Vitality Player of the Month, one PFA Fans Player of the Month award and has been nominated for PFA Fans Player of the Season.
