Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil has expressed his disappointment following Germany’s semi-final defeat in Euro 2016.
The 27-year-old started his sixth game in a row for Joachim Low’s side but was unable to add to his assist of goal tally yesterday evening.
Germany were eliminated by the hosts France following a brace from the Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann.
Ozil took to social media after the game and uploaded a picture of himself alongside Paul Pogba with the following caption, ” The disappointment of the bitter defeat is still the same as yesterday. It just was not meant to be and luck was not really on our side. Nevertheless, congratulations to France being a great host. The team and especially the people well deserved it after all the discussions and safety precautions throughout the country since November 2015. Adieu & merci France.”
Ozil was one of the star’s of the show during Germany’s win over Italy, the 27-year-old scored his sides only goal but missed his penalty during the shootout.
Germany dominated possession against the host’s yesterday but were unable to find a breakthrough. Ozil’s Arsenal teammates Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud started for France.
The 27-year-old will join Arsenal’s pre-season camp later this month following a short break.
