Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has come out in praise of Mesut Özil following an impressive run of form that has seen the World Cup winner provide five assists in his last four league games.
“We have to be honest he is an amazing player, listen he is a World Cup winner but this year he finally woke up,” Henry said speaking on Sky Sports after the victory over Everton.
The Gunners playmaker has been heavily criticised in press since joining the north London club from Real Madrid in 2013 but he has managed to turn around the perception that he has been underperforming recently.
Özil has the best ‘games per assist’ record in Premier League history according to statistics published by Opta. The Arsenal star has provided 93 assists since August 2008, only Lionel Messi has setup more goals over the same time period (98).
The Gunners moved into first place following their 2-1 win over Everton last weekend but were knocked out of the League Cup after a 3-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.
The north London based side take on Swansea next on Saturday 31 October 2015 at the Liberty stadium.
