Arsenal beat Everton 2-1 at the Emirates over the weekend to move into first place in the Premier League table.
Mesut Özil played a starring role in the victory setting up Olivier Giroud with the opening goal. The World Cup winner has now provided five assists in his last four league games.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry waxed lyrical about Özil following the game on Sky Sports stating that a major reason why the Gunners are first in the league is because the 27-year-old is in great form.
“This year he woke up, he finally woke up and you have to give him his credit,” Henry said speaking on Sky Sports.
“It is not a coincidence that Arsenal are top of the table.”
Özil joined the north London based club on a £42.5 million transfer from Real Madrid in 2013 and despite establishing himself as a first team regular he has been regularly criticised for his performances in the press.
The Arsenal playmaker has however, been winning over his critics this season and has played an important role in the Gunners rising to the to o the table over recent weeks.
