Mesut Ozil is the reason Arsenal haven’t won major silverware, says former Chelsea defender

TalkSport presenter and former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has taken a swipe at Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, Cundy stated that while he believes Ozil is a talented player, he lacks the desire to succeed at the very top level.

Cundy even went as far as to say the reason Arsenal have not won any major silverware in recent years is down to Ozil.

“I’ve never said at any point that Ozil is a bad player; we know he’s a good player,” Cundy told TalkSport.

“Technically he’s very gifted; he can (when given time and space) hurt you. The problem I have is his lack of desire and his lack of heart.

“And those two things, I don’t care how much talent you’ve got, unless you have both of those you’re never going to get to the very top.

“People tell me he’s won the World Cup, that he’s the German Player of the Year three, four or five times.

“But I tell you for nothing; one of the reasons Arsenal have done nothing since he’s been there is because of him.”

Furthermore, the 29-year-old played a starring role during Germany’s World Cup win back in 2014.

Ozil continues his impressive run of form over the weekend during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton in the Premier League.

The Gunners are back in action on Wednesday evening when they take on Bretford in the League Cup.
