Mesut Ozil is still someway off agreeing a new deal with Arsenal according to Arsene Wenger.
Ozil’s contract is set to expire in June 2018 and according to reports, was in talks to sign a new contract.
However, the Gunners boss Wenger poured cold water on talks of a new contract when asked whether the Germany international was close to signing a new deal.
“No that’s not close, no,” Wenger was quoted as saying by Bein Sport.
Ozil played the full 90 minutes during Arsenal’s defeat to rivals Manchester United in the Premier league last weekend.
The 27-year-old create a grand total of six goal scoring opportunities more than any other player over the course of the 90 minutes but only one was converted.
Ozil has provided 18 assists in the Premier League this season and is just two assists away from matching the league record of 20 set by Thierry Henry.
