Mesut Ozil now second highest paid Premier League player – Man United January transfer takes top spot

North London giants Arsenal have had to bring out the chequebook in order to convince Mesut Ozil to stay.

The Germany international penned a new three-and-a-half year contract with the Gunners earlier this weeks after months of speculation linking him with an exit.

Ozil will now earn a bumper £300,000 per week until the summer of 2021 making him the second highest earner in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old is however behind his former teammate Alexis Sanchez who earns £350,000 per week at Manchester United.

Incredibly, Arsenal’s latest signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not in the top-ten highest paid Premier League players. The star striker penned a £180,000 per week contract with the Gunners.

Ozil put in an impressive performance for Arsenal on Tuesday despite their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City. The Germany international is expected to be back in action when the Gunners face Everton in the Premier League this weekend.
