Danny Murphy has revealed his verdict on who he thinks is the better footballer between Arsenal star Mesut Ozil and Denmark international Christian Eriksen.

The two attacking midfielder have often been compared over the past few years. Part of the reason being the rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham – Eriksen was a Spurs player until his recent move to Inter.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy had the following to say when asked who had the better career between the two players: “If you were asking who I would have in my team, I’d have Ozil ahead of Eriksen. It’s a tough one. [But] Ozil is better.

“A lot of the time Eriksen’s best stuff comes when the team is doing well and the players around him are playing well. A bit like Ozil.

“[He cannot] grab a game by the scruff of its kneck on his own. He’s not a physical presence. But he’s a technically a good player, who could bang in a good free-kick.

“I think he has done brilliantly at times for Spurs. Football is about opinion. Mine isn’t right and yours isn’t right. We have all got our own.

“I just think that Ozil in a big game in the past [has played well], he’s won World Cups, and he’s done more than Eriksen. He has been more successful.”

Neither Ozil nor Eriksen has been in the best of form this season.

Ozil was ostracised from the team for much of the season under the stewardship of Unai Emery but he has regained his place in the team following Mikel Arteta taking charge.

Eriksen meanwhile left Spurs having scored just twice in the Premier League.

The Denmark international made his Inter Milan debut on Wednesday night after completing his £16.9m move from Tottenham.
