Money was a factor in Emre Can decision to leave Liverpool this summer, says former Germany international

Former Germany international Jurgen Kohler believes money was a factor in Emre Can leaving Liverpool to join Juventus.

Can made the move to the Serie A champions after his contract with the Merseyside based club expired over the summer.

Kohler has stated that despite being a regular starter at Liverpool, Can’s decision to make the move to Juve was the correct one.

“Sporting-wise, yes [it was the right move],” Former Bayen Munich defender Kohler told German outlet Sport1.

“The new situation is very interesting for him, although he had good games and developed well at Liverpool.

“He’ll earn more in Turin than he did with the Reds, which of course was a reason for the change.

“Any players who say otherwise are not telling the truth. At the time, I left Bayern Munich because I could earn more money.

“The fact that I was able to experience a picture-book career with Juve and thus achieved a great standing in Germany was unpredictable.

“Defensive players are not like sand in the sea. There are only a few really good ones.”

Emre Can is yet to start a game for Juventus since his move to Italy. The 24-year-old has started all three of the Old Lady’s games on the bench and has played just 44 minutes out of a possible 270.

Juventus are back in action next weekend when they take on Sassuolo in the Serie A.

Can was left out of Joachim Low’s Germany national team squad. The 24-year-old made a total of 38 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side last season. Can also featured in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.
