Vincenzo Montella, head coach of the Turkish national team, has expressed his views on Arda Güler’s limited playing time at Real Madrid ahead of the upcoming European Championships.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been a source of frustration for Turkish fans, who view him as the country’s next great footballing talent.

Güler’s struggles were highlighted recently when he was prepared to enter a La Liga match only for Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti to change his mind. To date, Güler has played less than 100 minutes in his debut La Liga season.

The Italian coach also confirmed that he and his staff are closely monitoring Güler’s situation with an eye toward the Euro 2024 tournament.

Montella underlined that he will only play players who are at their ‘best physical condition’.

He confirmed: “I went to see Arda. He plays very little, but I hope he can do it from now on because he has a lot of talent.

“We follow him very carefully. We will call on our players who are in their best physical condition for the Euro Cup.”

Güler will be hoping to get more playing time before the end of the season. Competition is intense for a place in the team for Euro 2024 and Montella has already demonstrated that he plays players on merit.

The Turkish national team has several talented youngsters coming through the ranks with the likes of Kenan Yildiz and Can Uzun to name but a few.
