Netherlands 6-0 Latvia: Van Persie & Robben run rout  [divider]

Netherlands beat Latvia 6-0 at the Amsterdam ArenA to rescue Guus Hiddink’s job in charge of Oranje.

Hiddink claimed he would quit his role as Netherlands boss if his side failed to beat Latvia.

Netherlands have had a poor run of results and were struggling in third place in Group A going into the game.

The Dutch also lost a recent friendly against Mexico 3-2 which further damaged morale.

However, the Netherlands responded in style, Robin van Persie and Jeffrey Bruma scored one each while Arjen Robben and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored braces to secured wrap up a vital win.

The win keeps Netherlands in third place on six points, Iceland and Czech Republic lead the group with nine points each.

Galatasaray star Wesley Sneijder played the full 90 minutes for Oranje.

Latvia remained in fourth place with two points after four games following the heavy defeat.
