Newcastle Could Break Transfer Record For Chelsea Target, Besiktas Offer Star Man Chance To Play Champions League Football

Newcastle Untied could break their 13-year transfer record to sign Leicester City forward Islam Slimani according to the Mirror.

Per the source, the Magpies are preparing a £20 million bid which would shatter the previous record set when they signed Michael Owen from Real Madrid for £16 million in 2005.

The Times reported that Chelsea made an approach to Leicester to sign Slimani on loan as they seek to provide Antonio Conte with a new centre forward.

The Blues have also been closely linked with Edin Dzeko and Andy Carroll.

A source close to Besiktas revealed that the club want Slimani on loan until the end of the season with a buyout clause option.

The Black Eagles would be able to give Slimani a role as first-choice forward with the opportunity to play Champions League football.

The Istanbul giants will take on Bayern Munich in the Last 16 stage after becoming the first Turkish club to finish the group stage as leaders.

Besiktas want a replacement for Cenk Tosun who was sold to Everton over the winter transfer window.

Slimani has struggled for playing time since the appointment of Claude Puyol as Leicester manager.

The Algeria international has made just one start in the league for Leicester since September.

The forward has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season off the bench.
