Newcastle United have moved into pole position in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Kenedy.

According to Premier League broadcaster Sky Sports, Newcastle have held talks with Chelsea over the Brazilian star.

Kenedy’s future at Stamford Bridge appears to be in doubt after he was sent home from a pre-season tour of China.

Per the source, Kenedy was nearing towards a move to Istanbul however, the Blues do not want to loan their young star to a club outside of the Premier League.

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez recently expressed his frustration at the transfer window this summer.

“It is very hard because the prices are crazy,” Benitez told SkySports.

“We missed some targets at the beginning and we are paying for that, but hopefully we can find some solutions.”

Kenedy was loaned to Watford FC last term but struggled with injuries and was returned to the Blues after making one appearance.

Newcastle take on Tottenham at St James’ Park on Sunday in their opening game of the Premier League season.
