Newcastle make enquiry for Liverpool midfielder, £4m demanded for star man targeted by Turkish giants

Newcastle United have made an enquiry for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva according to the Northern Echo.

Per the source, the Reds are demanding £4 million for the Brazilian ace.

Contrary to reports claiming Lucas’ contract is set to expire he actually has another year-left on his current deal.

The Reds also included Lucas on the retained list submitted to the Premier League.

“I have another year of contract with Liverpool,” Lucas said following the final game of the 2016-17 season as he and many of his teammates prepared to head to Australia for a post-season friendly against Sydney FC.

Lucas is being considered as an alternative to Jack Colback and Isaac Hayden in midfield.

The 30-year-old is the longest serving member in the Liverpool squad.

The experienced midfielder joined the Reds from Gremio in 2007.

The Magpies could face competition from Turkish giants Besiktas and Galatasaray.

Sources from both clubs have confirmed to Turkish-Football that they are interested in Lucas.

The Lions were also closely linked with the Brazilian midfielder last summer but Klopp vetoed the move.

Besiktas would be able to offer Champions League football next season and assurances of regular first-team football if he were to make the move.
