Newcastle “mystified” by £9m plus player transfer story but admit interest in 26-goal star striker

Newcastle United have rejected reports linking Aleksandar Mitrovic with a part-exchange move to Turkish Super League champions Besiktas.

According to the Turkish outlet DHA, the Magpies offered Besiktas a mega £9 million plus Mitrovic deal in exchange for the in-form Cenk Tosun.

However , The Chronicle states that Newcastle United are “mystified” by the story and have insisted that there is absolutely no truth to it.

Per the source, while Newcastle admitted they are interested in signing Tosun, they are not convinced that he is worth the £20m price tag Besiktas have set for him.

Tosun has been in impressive form for the Istanbul giants this season. The Turkey international has scored four goals and provided two assists so far in the UEFA Champions League. The star striker also netted 26-goals for the Black Eagles last season.

Newcastle are keen on bolstering their attacking options during the upcoming transfer window after struggling for goals.

Only four Premier League sides have scored fewer goals than the Magpies this season.
