Newcastle United rising star reveals international ambitions

Newcastle midfielder Dan Barlaser has revealed his ambitions of playing for the Turkey national team.

The 21-year-old has already made 15 appearances for Turkey’s youth sides.

Barlaser is currently on loan at Macclesfield Town and has made seven appearances since joining on loan from Newcastle.

Gateshead born midfielder admitted that it would be very difficult to turn down the chance of playing for the Turkey national team.

“I have Turkish youth caps at 16 and 17 and then I played for England at Under 18s. I have been asked to go back to Turkey for Under-20s but I didn’t go. I am still keeping my options open,” Barlaser was quoted as saying by the Lancashire Telegraph.

“For England, you have to be a top Premier League player to get in the England team and I don’t want to get ahead of myself.

“At Newcastle not many people really get called up and if Turkey came along it would be stupid not to say yes because you would be playing international football.”

According to the Turkish outlet Aksam, Besiktas were looking into the possibility of singing Barlaser over the summer transfer window.

Per the source, the Black Eagles viewed Newcastle United’s young prospect as a long-term replacement for Oguzhan Ozyakup.

Newcastle United are yet to win a Premier League game this season. Rafa Benitez’s side will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on Brighton on October 20 at St James Park.
