Newcastle United star midfielder in talks with Turkish club over summer move

Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet has been linked with a move back to the Turkish Super Lig.

According to Turkish outlet Olay, Bursaspor have set their sights on signing the French midfielder.

Per the source, Bursaspor’s newly appointed manager Samet Aybaba will personally be involved in negotiations with Saivet.

The 27-year-old is no stranger to Aybaba after playing under the experienced Turkish tactician while on loan at Sivassspor last season.

Saivet is expected to leave Newcastle United this summer after falling out of favour with manager Rafa Benitez. Per the source, the Magpies would, however, prefer to sell Saivet outright rather than loan him out again.

The Senegal-born midfielder provided two assists in 12 Turkish Super Lig appearances for Sivasspor. Saivet still has three-years remaining on his contract with Newcastle.

Newcastle finished the Premier League season in an impressive 10th place despite only being promoted last summer. Bursaspor meanwhile missed out on European football following a disappointing second half of the season.
