‘No Champions League may help Arsenal’ says Petr Cech – Reveals which 2 players Gunners must keep

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has urged Arsenal to keep hold of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Both Ozil and Sanchez’s futures with Arsenal have been cast in doubt. The duo have just 12 months remaining on their contracts with the Gunners.

Cech believes Arsenal must keep hold of their star assets if they are to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Arsenal will miss out on Champions League football for the first time in 20 years after finishing the Premier League season in fifth place.

The Gunners ended the season in fifth place, a point behind fourth placed Liverpool.

Cech also stated that missing out on the Champions League may provide a boost to Arsenal’s title bid next season.

“They are both fantastic players. Alexis has been brilliant. He has scored a lot of goals,” Cech was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“And Mesut you know. They are both exceptional players and you want to keep exceptional players with you.”

“If you have a one off year in 20 years, it is not a problem. The club has a strong foundation and organisation to be one year out and to come back straight it. Look at Chelsea last season. It helped them not to be involved as they could keep all their energy for the league.

Cech also insisted that a first failure to qualify for the Champions League in twenty years is ‘not a problem’ – as long as Arsenal keep their team together.

Cech went to state why Arsenal ended up outside of the top-four. The former Chelsea keeper believes Arsenal’s failure to pick up points from the league’s top sides ultimately cost them.

The north London-based club won just one of their eight games against the top four.

“Obviously February and March was the period when we dropped points unnecessarily. And in the big games last season we got the most from games against the top four and this season we have not done so well. So that was it.

“When you lose games, you make too many mistakes.”
