Two men are facing legal action following a series of disruptive incidents during Nottingham Forest’s recent Europa League encounter with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.
The high-stakes fixture at the City Ground was temporarily halted during the first half after flares were launched from the visiting supporters’ section. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that three individuals were initially detained as officers and stewards moved to manage the volatile atmosphere.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Following an investigation, authorities have officially charged two individuals in connection with the unrest:
Ender Celik, 37, of Hackney, London, faces charges for throwing a missile at an area adjacent to the pitch.
Dale Morgan, 38, of Nottingham, has been charged with entering the playing area during the match.
Both men have been released on conditional bail. They are scheduled for separate appearances at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on March 17.
A third individual, originally arrested on suspicion of assaulting a stadium steward, has been released with no further action taken.
Stadium Damage Reported
Beyond the on-pitch disruptions, stadium officials discovered significant damage to a section of seating in the away end. The destruction was identified by clean-up crews after the Fenerbahçe supporters had vacated the area at the conclusion of the match.
Result on the Night
The chaos in the stands provided a turbulent backdrop to a tense sporting battle. While Forest suffered a 2-1 defeat on the night to the Istanbul side, their previous performance carried them through. The English club secured their spot in the next round with a 4-2 aggregate victory, ensuring their European campaign continues despite the evening’s disciplinary setbacks.
