Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has shown solidarity with his teammate Altay Bayindir after the Turkish shot-stopper conceded a controversial goal in their Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Bayindir faced criticism for his handling of the ball during Son Heung-min’s direct corner kick goal.

However, Onana, who was on the bench for the match, defended his teammate and suggested that there may have been a foul in the build-up to the goal.

After the final whistle, Onana joined Bayindir in protesting the decision to the referee backing the second choice keeper.

Additionally, United manager Amorim also defended his keeper.

Despite the setback, United manager Ruben Amorim has backed Bayindir and emphasized the importance of team unity.

He reassured the goalkeeper that the team will learn from the mistakes and improve as a unit.

Amorim said: “No, he doesn’t have to do that. He has to focus. We will see the game, and we will improve every player of this team. We win together, lose together. It is not the individual; it is the team.”

Regarding whether Bayindir was fouled Amorim refused to comment on the officials. “I didn’t look,” he added.

“I already said in Portugal, of course my career is really small, but I never speak about referees. I will not start now, I will try to maintain that for a long time.”

The Carabao Cup defeat was a disappointing result for United, but the club remains focused on their Premier League campaign and other competitions.
