Referees have always been a hot topic after Chelsea – Barcelona games, especially when Turkish official Cuneyt Cakir is in charge.
Six years ago, Cakir officiated the 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Barcelona at the Nou Camp that saw the reigning Premier League champions go onto reach the final.
Despite going onto win the Champions League, Chelsea fans were not pleased with Cakir’s decisions.
The referee sent John Terry off in the first half of the match, while also awarding Barcelona a penalty in the second 45 minutes.
We took a look at how Chelsea fans reacted to Cakir’s refereeing performance in the latest 1-1 draw against Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Cakir is not exactly a favorite among Chelsea fans and he did not improve his standing among the home faithful over the course of the 90 minutes either.
@UEFA next time don’t allow idiot as Cüneyt Çakır is to officiate, choose someone who actually knows what and how to officiate #CHEBAR

The last time UEFA was so scared of England in Europe was when 3 English teams were in the semis and they had to do anything to stop and second consecutive all English final. They sent Ovrebo the puppet. Now they send the Spanish-loving Cuneyt Cakir.

Oi someone said that Cuneyt Cakir was the ref tonight is that true? If I had known I would have never watched, on God

Cuneyt Cakir has not changed from the game against Porto last season where he averaged a foul every 3 minutes. He loves the sound of his own whistle.

Not everyone slammed him.
Much yardage being made of Chelsea v Barca beig reffed by Cuneyt Cakir, ‘the man who sent off John Terry’. He did. And, like it or not, it was a good call. Seen him take charge of seven Chelsea games and, though not without error, he’s been one of UEFA’s more impressive refs.

Does Mr Cakir really favor Spanish sides?
Cuneyt Cakir and spanish teams is still a better love story than Twilight.

Referee for CHELSEA vs BARCELONA tonight – Cuneyt Cakir
* Sent John Terry off vs Barcelona in 2012
* Refereed 5 Barca games (4 wins, 1 draw)
* Sent Nani off vs Real Madrid— Thierry Nyann (@nyannthierry) February 20, 2018
I just saw the referee and I must say Cuneyt Cakir is not a trusted man, only trusted to favor Spanish teams

Cuneyt Cakir tonight. Interesting.

He was in charge of the 2-2 draw against Barcelona that saw Chelsea advance to – and win – the Champions League.
The referee for tonight’s game is Cüneyt Çakır. Recognize the name? He’s the referee who was in charge of the last meeting between Barca and Chelsea, when Chelsea tied Barca 2-2 in the Camp Nou to advance to (and eventually win) the Champions League final. pic.twitter.com/eDkzA0MZWT

But did end up controversially sending off John Terry.
