“Our Common Interest is Always Turkiye”: Arda Guler’s Heartfelt Message After Historic World Cup Qualification

In the emotional aftermath of Türkiye’s 1-0 victory over Kosovo, which ended a 24-year wait for a World Cup appearance, Real Madrid star Arda Güler has issued a passionate plea for national unity and collective pride.

Speaking to Fanatik and reporters at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium, the 21-year-old playmaker—who played 83 minutes of the grueling playoff final—brushed aside individual accolades to focus on the significance of the “Crescent-Stars” returning to the world stage.

Unity Over Individuality

Güler, who has faced immense pressure and scrutiny since his move to the Spanish capital, emphasized that the success of the National Team transcends personal rivalries or club affiliations.

“The common interest of this group, and of our people, is always Türkiye,” Güler stated. “It doesn’t matter who scores or who starts. What matters is that our flag is flying where it belongs. We have felt the weight of 24 years on our shoulders, and today, we have finally lifted it together.”

A Dream Realized

For Güler, the 2026 World Cup represents his first opportunity to play in the tournament, having been just a child during Türkiye’s previous qualification cycles.

“I grew up hearing stories of the 2002 World Cup,” he admitted. “To be part of the generation that brings that joy back to the Turkish people is a feeling I cannot describe. We aren’t just going to North America to participate; we are going there to represent the ‘Energy’ and the ‘Will’ of 85 million people.”

Vincenzo Montella’s “Golden Boy”

Güler’s focus remained firmly on the tactical discipline instilled by manager Vincenzo Montella.

Despite a “grueling, high-stakes battle” in Pristina, Güler credited the team’s “Magical Simplicity” and the defensive solidity of the squad for navigating the playoff. “Coach Montella told us to play with our hearts but keep our heads. We stayed calm when the atmosphere got difficult, and that is why we won.”

Looking Ahead: Group D and the World Stage

Türkiye now prepares for a challenging Group D featuring the USA, Paraguay, and Australia. For Güler, the target is already set. “We know the expectations are high. We have a young, hungry squad. We will go there to show the world the true Fitrat (nature) of Turkish football.”
