Ozil reveals most of his hard work for Arsenal goes ignored

Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Özil has not had an easy ride this season. The 26-year-old faced a lot of criticism earlier on in the season but Özil has revealed that a lot of the stick he gets stems from being misunderstood.

“If you look at my statistics, I am one of the players who covers the most distance,” Özil said in an interview with Sport-Magazine.

“Also, if you look at the stats in terms of assists and creating chances, they are all pretty good. I know some people might want me to make X-number of passes – but people often miss what goes on off the ball.”

The World Cup winner has also covered more distance since his return than his teammates.

The Gunners have won 13 out of 15 games Özil has played in since returning from injury and are currently on an eight match winning run in the Premier League.

Özil is statistically the third best performing Arsenal player this season according to Whoscored with a rating of 7.63.

The World Cup winner has scored or provided an assist in seven out of the last nine league games he has played in.

The Gunners take on Reading next in the FA Cup semi-final on 18 April.
