Paul Merson Reveals Consequences Man United vs Liverpool Result Could Have

Manchester United take on Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday hoping to hold onto their second-place spot in the table.

Liverpool have the chance to overtake United in the league standings with an away win.

The Reds have not lost to the Red Devils in their last five encounters so they may just fancy their chances.

Paul Merson seems to think so anyway. The former Arsenal man cannot see Liverpool losing the game as revealed in his preview for Sky Sports.

Merson believes the outcome of the game is so important that he whoever wins will finish the league as runners-up.

The football pundit predicts a 1-1 scoreline but sees Liverpool being on the front foot trying to open up United.

Merson wrote the following: “I can’t see Liverpool losing. It’s a game where the first goal is massive, but Liverpool score and have plenty of pace in the team. They’re playing well and have confidence. I don’t think Manchester United will be able to cope with them at the back.

“United won’t open it up, I don’t see that happening at all. If they win, they’ll probably get second, but if Liverpool do I think they’ll definitely end up coming runners-up.”

Midfielder of Turkish origin Emre Can is likely to start for the Reds as he has done for the last 11 league games.

Can will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he strikes a new contract deal with Liverpool.

United have actually been linked among several sides trying to snap up Can on a free transfer according to the Corriere Dello Sport.
