‘People are are dying’ – Radamel Falcao reacts to Turkish League not suspending games despite coronavirus outbreak

Galatasaray striker Radamel Falcao has issued his response to the Turkish league continuing despite the coronavirus outbreak with a strongly worded tweet.

Falcao wrote that ‘people are dying about the world And we are talking to play football’.

The Colombia international attached a graph of the rise of infections in Turkey with the following tweet.

Every major league in Europe has suspended football due to the Covid-19 pandemic except the Super Lig.

The Turkish Football Federation plan to go ahead with the weekend fixtures without fans to avoid large public gatherings.

Falcao started in the Istanbul derby against Besiktas on Sunday and is expected to feature again when the Lions take on Rizespor in Rize which is situated on the eastern Black Sea coast.

Trabzonspor midfielder John Obi Mikel also publically criticized the Turkish league not being suspended on Instagram.

There is more to life than football. I do not feel comfortable and don’t want to play football in this situation. Everyone should be home with their families and loved ones in this critical time. Season should be cancelled as the world is facing such turbulent times.

He then terminated his contract through mutual consent forgoing future payments in the process.
