Pep Guardiola Describes Man City Star As Being ‘Extraordinary’ After Champions League Brace

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on his star playmaker Ilkay Gundogan.

The Germany international was included in Guardiola’s starting eleven for City’s 4-0 win over FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League.

Gundogan played a starring role on the night with two goals and played the full 90 minutes.

Guardiola stated that City missed Gundogan last season due to injuries and that he is an ‘extraordinary’ player.

“Gundogan is an extraordinary player. Last season we missed him a lot for the six months he was injured,” Guardiola told BT Sport after the game.

“I am so happy for the performance not just the goal but the quality he has, the personality he has shown to play is fantastic.”

Gundogan was sidelined for approximately 12 months and only returned to first team training over the summer. The 26-year-old has gone on establish himself as a first-team regular in the Spanish tactician’s side.

City are back in action on Monday night when they host Wigan Athletic at the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup.
