Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil has been handed the No.10 shirt number ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The 29-year-old has made no secret of the fact that he wanted the jersey in recent years. However, Jack Wilshere occupied the shirt when Ozil arrived at Arsenal from Real Madrid back in 2016.

Wilshere left the club earlier this week putting an end to a 17-year association with the north London based club.

Ozil has subsequently been given the vacant number. The playmaker of Turkish origin took to social media to express his delight, “10. It’s more than just a number. Means a lot to me wearing it next season! Thanks.”

Ozil is currently on holiday with his fiance Amine Gulse following Germany’s group stage exit from the 2018 World Cup.

The defending champions failed to make it out of the group stage losing against Mexico and South Korea.
