Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil met German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The duo received criticism after they were pictured alongside Recep Tayip Erdogan during the Turkish president’s visit to the United Kingdom last week.
Ozil and Gundogan came under fire from German politicians who accused the Premier League pair of endorsing Erdogan.
Germany national team boss Joachim Low spoke to reporters following Ozil and Gundogan’s meeting with Steinmeier.
“The two players contacted us and the DFB and wanted to clear this issue up,” Low told reporters.
