Manchester City star playmaker Ilkay Gundogan has issued a reaction to his side’s defeat at the hands of FC Basel.
The Citizens suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. The loss was Man City’s first at home since 2016.
Pep Guardiola did, however, qualify to the quarterfinals after securing a 4-0 victory in the first-leg.
Gundogan stated that his side’s defeat was down to complacency. The Germany went onto state that the loss was a welcome reminder that he and his teammates will need to give 100% in every single fixture.
“Champions League games are never won easily. Basel did a good job and we couldn’t get close to our potential tonight, knowing we were in a comfortable lead on aggregate. This match is a reminder that every victory is hard earned. We’ll show that in the quarter-finals!”
