Revealed: Man United legend Alex Ferguson is the reason Ronaldo has a favourite number
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson is the reason why the number seven is his favourite number, during filming at the Turk Telekom Arena in Istanbul, Turkey.
Ronaldo was speaking during filming for a promotional film advertising 4.5 G.
The Portuguese international gave the Hurriyet newspaper an interview where he revealed that he actually wanted the number 28 when he first arrived at United but that Ferguson changed his mind.
“When I was a kid I always played wearing the number seven or number 10 but when I joined Manchester United actually I wanted the number 28,” Ronaldo said.
“Sir Alex Ferguson had other plans, he gave me the number seven and that was a huge responsibility.
“But because of his decision the number seven became my favourite number.”
Ronaldo also currently wears the number seven jersey for Real as well as for the Portugal national team.
The 32-year-old also revealed that he admires Turkish football fans passion for the game and that he enjoys visiting Turkey.
“I have been to Turkey a few times and love it, also some of my Portuguese friends all tell me how great it is to play there,” he added.
“In my opinion Turks are the most passionate fans in the world.
“I like to visit Turkey, especially Bodrum and I want to visit again.”
The Portuguese star started for Real in the 3-1 victory over Napoli in Italy on Tuesday 7 March which saw the Madrid based outfit progress to the next round of the Champions League.
Ronaldo helped Real win the Champions League trophy last season and Portugal lift the European Championship over the summer.
