Revealed: Paul Pogba neck and neck with £21m Man United target in Performance Rankings

Manchester United star Paul Pogba moved one place above Besiktas ace Anderson Talisca in the FedEx Performance Zone rankings this week.

Pogba moved up four places into fourth place, one above Talisca.

Celta Vigo’s Iago Aspas is currently first, followed by Lyon man Correntin Tollisso in second and Nick Viergever in third.

Talisca may be feeling a little hard done by considering he put on a man of the match display in the Europa League quarter-final second-leg tie against Lyon.

The 23-year-old scored both of the Black Eagles goals which forced the game into a penalty shoot-out – he even converted his penalty.

Despite a brilliant performance Talisca dropped one spot in the rankings.

The official UEFA website describes the FedEx Performance Zone as: “Tracks players’ form for their clubs in their respective domestic leagues as well as in the UEFA Europa League. The Performance Zone runs official player statistics through a specially designed algorithm to create rankings based on player performances.”

Perhaps the algorithm could do with a tweak?

Regardless of what the performance zone thought Talisca still won the player of the week award.

Talisca’s display would probably have gone down well with the United scouts who have been keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder according to Turkish-Football.

Talisca has directly been involved in 20 goals this season – netting 16 times and providing four assists.

The Brazilian is on loan at Besiktas from Benfica and the Black Eagles do have the option to extend his stay by another season but he does have a £21 million release clause.
