Revealed: The Full Conversation Between Liverpool Star, Eriksen, And Match Officials

Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday in a game shrouded in controversy.

Spurs two penalty calls were major talking points after the game.

The first penalty call sparked a heated debate between the match officials, Liverpool star Emre Can and Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen.

Harry Kane was in an offside position when he was played in on goal before being brought down by keeper Loris Karius.

The main talking point was whether Dejan Lovren made contact with the ball from Dele Alli’s pass.

The penalty should not have stood had he not made contact.

Referee Jon Moss sought confirmation from his assistant Ed Smart but bizarrely neither had a definitive answer.

Moss requested whether fourth official Martin Atkinson had any TV footage before making the final call.

Footage from Sky Sports revealed their conversation in full.

Smart: “All I need to know, did Lovren touch the ball?”

Moss: “I don’t know.”

Smart: “If he’s not touched the ball, it is offside, so you’re chalking off the penalty. It has to be offside if Lovren has not touched the ball.”

Christian Eriksen: “He did touch the ball.”

Emre Can: “He didn’t touch the ball.”

Moss “Just talk to me again.”

Smart: “You know what I’m asking; I need to clarify, has Lovren touched the ball?
“If he has, it’s a deliberate action and, therefore, it’s a penalty. If he has not, it is offside.”

Moss: “I have no idea whether Lovren touched the ball to be honest with you.
Martin, have you got anything from TV? I’m giving the penalty.”

The penalty ended up standing but Kane missed the spot kick.

Mohamed Salah went onto score what looked to be the winner before Spurs were awarded another penalty. This time Kane converted.
