Revealed: Wenger’s thoughts on Mesut Ozil ‘scapegoat’ comment

Mesut Ozil recently stated that pundits and fans are treating him as a scapegoat for all the problems at Arsenal.

The Gunners have struggled for form in recent weeks. Arsenal suffered a 10-2 aggregate exit from the Champions League and have dropped out of the top-four.

“People know what I have achieved. That I am a World Cup winner, played for Real Madrid, set up 20 goals last season” Ozil told Sport Bild.

“When the team’s on a bad run, somebody needs to be singled out, sadly most of the time it’s me.”

Ozil’s agentDr Erkut Sogut echoed Ozil’s claim stating that his client has been made a “scapegoat” for Arsenal’s struggles.

Arsenal manager Wenger agreed that Ozil is being made out as a scapegoat.

“Of course. We live in a world of extremes,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the Express.

“We’re praised more than we should and punished more as well.”

Ozil scored Arsenal’s opening goal and provided an assist for their second during their win over West Ham.

The Gunners recorded a 3-0 victory over the Hammers and have moved back up into fifth place.

Arsenal are four points behind fourth placed Man City but do have a game in hand. The north London based club take on Crystal Palace on Monday night.
