‘Has a role to play’ – Man City star Vincent Kompany urges star midfielder to remain patient & team to stay grounded

Manchester City equalled their Premier League record for most consecutive victories over the weekend following their 2-1 win over Huddersfield.

City are on an 11 game win streak but team captain Vincent Kompany feels that his side must stay grounded.

Kompany was quoted by the Daily Star as saying: “After 15 years at this level, the one thing you know and learn is that you do not crown yourself champions in November.

“Let’s be steady. The biggest challenge for us now is to go back home and say ‘the next game, let’s do it again and do it again.’”

Kompany also urged fellow teammate Ilkay Gundogan to remain patient as his time will come.

The midfielder of Turkish origin has yet to start a league game this season after recording from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The Belgium international added: “Ilkay understands football. It is quite important that we have everyone fit. Ilkay has a role to play, like the whole team does.”

City have been working on Gundogan’s fitness, easing him back following the cruciate ligament knee injury.

Gundogan made a brief appearance against Huddersfield over the weekend coming on in the 86th minute for Sergio Aguero.

The 27-year-old has two assists and has started two Champions League games this campaign as well as two League Cup matches.

City will take on Southampton next on Wednesday 29 November in the Premier League.

The Citizens have won 37 points from their opening 13 matches this campaign – no team has ever achieved such a feat in Premier League history.
